1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment

1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment — a maneuver battalion of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division.

Activated at Fort Lewis in 1941, the 87th Mountain Infantry was built around skilled skiers and mountaineers recruited with help from the National Ski Patrol. The regiment became part of the Army’s mountain-warfare heritage and fought with the 10th Mountain Division in Italy during World War II. Today, 1-87 IN continues that legacy with the Warrior Brigade at Fort Drum.
